Erica (Ricky) & Andrew extend you a truly warm welcome to their home, the Rivendell Homestay Bed and Breakfast where you have a choice of either B & B ensuite accommodation or, if you prefer, a fully fitted self-contained flat.

Rivendell is situated on the outskirts of the delightful town of Geraldine, New Zealand (which is only a two hour drive from Christchurch, as well as being on the Central South Island Tourist route for people travelling on to Mt Cook or the lakes and Queenstown) in a secluded spot with beautiful gardens ,just as with Tolkien's Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings.

We offer you a peaceful and tranquill stay with the chance to unwind and relax without the crowds that you find in other tourist towns. You can take the time to wander our property and meet our animals, visit some of the local attractions such as the local cafe scene, golf courses, historical cinemas and jam and cheesemaking factories, or just sit back and be pampered while reclining uninterrupted in our picturesque gardens.

Kiwis looking for a break over the winter months? Why not stay with us and take a decent break away from everything. We have a spa pool and all the comforts of home, but also offer peace and quiet and the chance to escape all the pressures of the real world for a night or two.

Bedrooms & Self Contained Unit

All the bedrooms in our Homestay are themed, so this means that we are able to offer each visitor a different form of welcome, comfort and homeliness.

The double beds are very comfortable, ensuring you will have a great sleep, and allowing you to forget any problems in the real world as only a deep sleep can.

For your convenience, our rooms have a television and tea and coffee making facilities available too.

The Garden Room, is so named because not only does it have a 'garden' decor with greens and earthy colours, as well as on the bedding and duvets, but because just out the window you can smell and view our beautifully maintained gardens.

Tariff: Single is $90 per night and includes full cooked breakfast. 

The Rose Room, is our main guest room for people wanting to stay. As well as the rose themed decor, this room has large comfy chairs and a full ensuite with all the amenities you could wish for.

The Self Contained Unit

This unit is the perfect place for a peaceful getaway, roomy, spacious, warm and matches the rest of the Rivendell B&B's friendly environment.

As with all the rooms, the "Duck Flat" provides tea and coffee making facilities for you as well as having a television available.

The kitchen facilities in the self contained unit match the rest of the self contained flat, with simple spacious areas to work in preparing lunches, dinners or breakfast, or catching up on the washing if you have been away from home for a while.

If you really want to unwind, then you don't have to make your own breakfast at all, instead you can arrange to dine with us (Ricky & Andrew) if you prefer.

Local Attractions

• Choice of two golf courses - Andrew (10 hcp) is available to accompany you on a round of golf, summer evenings & weekends

• 4 x 4 Scenic Drive Tours – Lord of the Rings Site tours.

• Skiing - Mount Dobson skifield is only an hours drive away, Mt Hutt skifield about 1and 1/4 hours, and Lake Tekapo Skifield slightly further at about an hour and a half.

• Salmon & Trout fishing - Some of the world's most famous salmon fishing spots on the Rangitata river which is very close, are easily accessible from centrally situated Rivendell, while smaller rivers like the Opihi and around Peel Forest that trout fisherman can enjoy are also very handy.

• White Water Rafting - Also close by on the Rangitata river with two main companies Rangitata Rafts & Hidden Valleys

• Scenic Walks - Only further up the road at Woodbury, or as close as 15 minutes away to Peel Forest Park which also has picnic areas and forest walks
